When I got the '49 I was told it had been converted to 12v but the battery would not hold the charge. It was already Neg ground and there is a resistor next to the coil. So I replaced the btry and same thing.. My mistake was not digging deeper first. I cleaned the data plate and found it was a 6v gen w about 9v output. It starts, runs well, but, of course, the battery goes dead after a while. Wanted to keep it looking original but the PowerMaster alternator that looks like a gen. is almost $400, so that's the reason for trying this other 12v gen. What can I damage if I hook it up wrong?
Thanks to everyone for all the input!
Steve
