75 W600 318 5 speed. I start it every Saturday, drive it every few weeks, more in the Winter. Back in August it ran poorly. I suspected the cruddy ethanol gas & the fact that I've never touched the carb in my 8 years of ownership & doubt the previous owner did either. The next Saturday it wouldn't turn over, hydralocked. I figured gas had flooded into the motor, so I pull 4 plugs, cranked it over, replaced the plugs then started it. Again it run bad but was shooting gas all over the place (breather off). So I decided the rebuild the Carter BBD. Well that took a month, mainly due to no tag & having to research what exact model BBD this was & getting the correct kit. I got the carb together last night, installed today.
Before I tried to start it I checked the radiator. It was about 1/2 gal low, which is odd. No visible leaks & hasn't been that low before. But it has been a while since I looked so I figured no big deal. The engine started fine & ran good, just a small fuel leak at the inlet fitting. But as it ran it smoked which it hadn't done before & BOTH the front & rear main seals were dripping, also a first. I'm beginning to think either my coolant is making it's way into the combustion chamber or crankcase, or the fuel pump is leaking into the motor.
If the Texas heat ever goes away my next step is draining the oil & doing an oil/filter change. Plus it needs new fuel line, filter & some Startron added to the tank.
