Yep that is the way to go. You can use a heavier wire to power the lights and a smaller gauge wire to run the trigger circuit on the relay. It saved running higher amps through the light switch and etc. mount the relay close to the front of the truck then run the heavier wire ‘direct’ from the battery with a high amp fuse or circuit breaker. On my WC53, I have a terminal block that I run a heavy battery cable to, then split off to the starter and my fuse blocks. There is a large circuit breaker between this terminal and the fuse blocks. I chose a circuit breaker over a fuseable link.
