The logic of buying an old one was explained to me by somebody in their 20s just yesterday.
It came up in the context of a Ford F150, which was just a few years old, being for sale in the low 20s and an 83 Dodge 4x4 rebuild crew cab also being for sale, with the "sticker" in that range. Going for the old Dodge didn't seem logical to me, but the younger driver, who is very computer savvy, gave me a detailed explanation on how he expected every single electronic display on a new "luxury" truck to ultimately fail and be incapable of being repaired.
