Another subject, but perhaps one in line with any gearbox , transfer or rear diff noises.
So, my buddy’s dad owns an early ford. Told me it’s transmission and diffs take 400 wt oil!!
Started reading about this. Actually a lot of really old cars took up to 600 weight oils. Wow. Must be like molasses.

Apparently model A vehicles and early stuff has so much
Tolerance
In the gears and seals heavier oils were required.
Got to thinking. Isn’t the lucas oil additive effective partly
Because of it being extremely thick (I.e. heavy viscosity)?
Now I realize putting something that heavy in a manual transmission would certainly make it stiff shifting.
Especially as weather gets colder!
I know my trucks seals at the rear axles ONLY leak in the summer. Usually quite dry during the winter months.
Still. What about a portion of the oil be replaced with something like 400 or 600 wt oil?
Reduce leaks at seals? Dampen internal gear noises?
I was really thinking about using it in my NOS steering gear box, which leaks.
Anyone ever try such a drastic measure in any of the driveline?
