It’s impossible to say at an auction what the real bidding went to. In any auction there are shill bidders. It’s not a fake thing...it’s real & it’s their strategy to get bidding up into the range where a seller may remove his reserve.
Before your truck goes over the block, they corner you & ask exactly what your lowest price you would accept for the vehicle so they know how far they can shill bid it without the owner wanting to sell.
It’s a common strategy but often you’ll see a car go through with an unrealistic reserve where real bidding may have only gone to like half of the end bidding.
They try to create a frenzy with hopes a real bidder will raise his hand & immediately they will drop the hammer.
Not saying this happened here but I assure you, if the bidding was $60k away from the reserve...there were several shill bids before they rolled it off stage.
