I had similar issues on my '49, but mostly with the steering column not lining up well.
I loosened things up and moved the cab around some. After a bit of back and forth everything lined up perfectly. Everything should line up, and if it doesn't, cutting something to make it fit is sort of a bandaid. I'd take my time and try adjusting things first.
