Actually if you do it right it is a quick install. Remove the rear window channel. Put the mechanism into the door cavity. Move it so the long arm comes up through the window opening move it to the rear of the door and turn it 90 degrees from it’s final direction. Start turning it and slip it into its hole in the door. Keep the long arm up through the window opening during the entire process. Put a couple of screws in place to hold it. Then lower the are down through the window opening and attach it to the regulator and then mount the regulator. Yes there is a trick to getting the latch through the hole. I believe you can tilt the mechanism putting the latch through the hole first.
I have installed several of them and have not had any real problems. Just don’t do what the guy who previously owned my PW. He couldn’t figure how it came out, so he used a torch and cut around 3 sides to hen bent the door metal to get to the latch. Then he replaced the broken spring in the latch with a pair of distributor points. It did work. Then he bent things back and brazed his cuts closed. I found a door with a rotted bottom and cut out the area around the latch and fitted and welded it in to my damaged door.
