Greg, sounds same as problems we have here in Oz. From my experience over many years - don't use tongue and groove boards or any type of overlap join, always leave a gap between boards, about 1/16" to 1/8", a metal cover strip over the gaps is good in smaller trucks, paint boards well with linseed oil before installation and clean. dry, reseal often afterwards. I use thick eucalyptus hardwood 1" to 1 1/4" when building/rebuilding a flatbed - local timber.
