To all,
According to statistics provided by the United States Fire Administration www.usfa.fema.gov (http://www.usfa.fema.gov) there are 1,082,500 firefighters in the US, 278,300 career and 804,200 volunteer.
Arson Convictions of firefighters each year: 100
100 convictions into 1,082,500 career and volunteer = 0.0000923% per year.
I personally worked for 37 years as a volunteer and career ff in a variety of assignments, wildland, rural, urban, and municipal, and I never encountered a single ff who was charged with arson. It has happened in profession though.
Statements made in a public forum in jest can be misleading the uninformed.
That aside, wear and care of apparatus varies with the attitude of the agency leadership. I was taught to take care of it because it takes care of you.
