always use grade 5 or higher in any automotive application. the grading system came along much later than WCs or PWs but the average mild steel bolt in a car or truck back then was an equivalent to about grade 5 or higher anyway. The running boards bolts are called step bolts like Kieth points out. I think the fenders are a mixture of 5/16 and 3/8 fine thread?? if you have samples you an take them to a fastenal store or similiar. or order from one of the PW supppliers
