I am pleased to hear talk and interest in making our L-heads better performers.
There for a while V-8 and diesel conversions was all anyone seemed interested in as you can get only so much hp and torque out of our L-heads within a reasonable budget.
The stock 251 does well enough for what it was designed to do but, how much better could it be with a little time and a few performance parts ? By performance parts I do not mean for hot rodding, but things that would make any engine more able to reach its true potential while remaining reliable.
One could spend a mint but what would be the least expensive things that could maximize hp and torque and add longevity to the trusty old L-heads ?
Intake & exhaust mods, better cam, ignition mod.,electric radiator fan, balancing internal components are just a few things that come to my mind.
Come on fellas, lets all put our 2cents worth in and come up with the best economical and productive modifications and/or ideas that will increase hp-torque and longevity. Nothing fits as well or is as easy to work on in the vehicle as our L-head.
There will be plenty of owners that will still opt for a V-8 or diesel but I like my L-head and would rather keep it as long as possible.
