None of the auto dealers, insurance co., mechanic shops, police dept, state DMV's(Deptartment of the Mentally Void), are required to send info to Carfax.com.

And like any other person or agency, the accuracy of the report is due to the integrity of the reporter.

For these 2 reasons, Carfax is far from a sure thing.

Carfax's free report tricks you into believing there is important VEHICLE HISTORY DETAILS found. After you pay $20.00, the important vehicle history turns out to be, the truck was registered. This is automatic info on ALL Carfax's reports. NOT THE INFO THAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR. I have checked on 5 trucks and this is the pattern that I have found.

The dealers know this too. Carfax has an automatic Credit Card credit system in place for those who feel they have been deceived.

I was hot on a 2001, w/ 8,000 miles, Quad cab Dodge, diesel 3500 dually until my bodyshop friends found the accident damage. The drivers side front fender, both doors, and the rear were re-painted. Damage underneath as well.
CARFAX HAD NONE OF THIS INFO.

Before the damage was found, the dealer(most of them lie every time they open their mouths), said the truck was traded in because the owner wanted leather seats. That reason did not go over well with me. Trade in a fully loaded truck, take a $5, 6, or $7000 loss, pay $2000.00 more in taxes on a new truck, all for a approx $1000+ option change.

They claim not to know about the damage. I can't believe they would buy a 10 month old truck with 8000 miles on it and not fully check it inside and out.
They have no problem lying to you or me so they would not tell Carfax the truth if it would hurt them.

-Try to get the service records if the dealer did the work.
-Get the VIN # and put in a call to the service mgr or secretary without the sales people knowing. Get a name of who you spoke to. After they bring up the truck info, if they ask if you are MR._____, just say yes. It should be the name of the previous owner. I would never do such a decieving thing.
-If you find out they did do the work, tell them you lost your records/reciepts and need the info to see what service is required next. Then look at the milage info on the work orders to see when the work was done.
-Call 1(800) 521-2779, a Dodge customer care hotline. Give them a VIN # and they maybe able to help as well.
-Maybe your insurance agent can look up the VIN and see if it has been in an accident.
They may not be able to get other info.
