47 WDX Brakes question

I have a question for you guys...I'm working on a 47 WDX this week relining the brakes & new wheel cylinders. The front brake backing plates are missing the spring clips that hold the shoes tight to the backing plate....they have either rusted or broken off. I notice they are riveted on, can you buy them anywhere or can I run without them? I suspect the brakes would drag with them missing.
This truck is a real shame, it has absolutely NO rust, the original floor plates don't even have so much as a pit on them, yet someone has cut the roof off the cab & turned it into a convertible! Then they've shortened the frame & installed a Chev box on it! Is nothing sacred?
