I had my truck in another funeral procession a week or two ago. Brought it back to Headquaters afterwards cuz i was on duty. The fleet manager is new to out Unit and he was fascinated by my truck. He looked it over for about an hour. I told him about my death wobble and he got in and shook the steering wheel. I was standing on the drivers side and saw the steering gear arm move almost an inch and a half in and out as he did that. Turns out its out of adjustment and was allowing the wheels to shimmy in the run out of the steering box.
No my question. I took the adjusting screw cap off and adjusted the screw. got almost four turns out of it before it bottomed out. There is now no play in the wheel like i didnt realize was happening. Ive driven it so much it felt no different. Now i feel the difference. However, the adjusting screw is so far in now the cap nut only screws on to the screw like two or three threads. Doesnt seem like its enough to be tight. Is there another adjustment i can make to get the adjusting screw out farther to let the cap have more bite?
Thanks
Nick
