Higher speed = more heat, so I'd expect there would be more wear too.
So if I read the link right: Front axle - Open end of the "V" chevron hits the ground first.
Rear axle - Closed end of the "V" hits the ground first.
I'm guessing that's to give you a chance to un-stuck it by backing up?
