I'm curious - when you say to clean the carbon, how critical is it to keep little specs of carbon from getting wedged between the pistons and the cylinder walls? The carbon seems fairly abrasive, and seems like it would scratch up the walls, but maybe it just seems abrasive to human hands, but not necessarily to the cylinders, pistons, rings, etc. I cleaned the carbon off the pistons on my 230 once and I had a heck of a time trying to keep the debris out of the the gap between the pistons and cylinders. Spent an awfully long time fishing it out with feeler gages and grease, tape, etc. If I were to do it again, I suppose I'd try filling those gaps completely with grease, and have the grease standing proud above the piston, which would keep the carbon from getting in the tight spaces, and then I'd carefully scoop the top of the grease away.
