I just got back from a week in Haiti, building a new YMCA building in Jacmel. When driving around at night several times I would see several guys working on a motorcycle and there would be a flame burning underneath the bike. On my way back to Port Au Prince, to fly home, I saw some guys in the daylight working on a bike and in among their tools and parts was a tool I can not figure out. It was a flat base, maybe 6" x 12". In the middle of the base was attached an upside down piston, (no connecting rod) and at either side was a piece of threaded rod or maybe long bolts with a section of leaf spring arched above the pistin, maybe 4" above the top of the piston. I am thinking they would pour diesel fuel or something into the piston and light it but I cant for the life of me figure out why? Anyone have any insight on this? I could see if it was Siberia maybe to warm up the oil to start it but certainly not in Haiti!
Thanks,
Tim
