The Nachese pass is still open to trucks mid July to mid November. I have only done it once. only winching I did was on the east side. I had to chain to a tree and winch everyone else up on really tough spot. sooo steep on the east. But if you started on the west you don't have to go all the way to the east side. it is really nice up at top in the meadows. Its an old Indian and wagon trail. I think there was the last battle among native Americans up there in the early 20th century
