Dash knob styles

My buddy Rick in Novato and I are discussing the various styles of dash knobs, I have three different styles. The slightly larger diameter type (ASH and HEAD) and the smaller (Panel Lights). The panel light style have a flat face or a slightly convex face. Anyone know the usage of the three styles?
