Spare wheel support

I would like to know how the weight of the spare wheel is supported , when mounted on a bolt on side mount , on a second series bed . Does the carrier take most of the weight , or does the area of running board between the rear two brackets take a fair amount . If so , is there meant to be some additional strengthening of this area . It seems likely that bumpy roads would soon make the wheel pound a pretty good hollow in the running board . I can’t find a picture and don’t have one to look at here
