This is a newly rebuilt T134 (Came with the PW). Initially would not start until I advanced ignition to its fullest position (counter clockwise) to get it to start and run. Engine seems to run OK now but after 15 minutes running at a high idle, I noticed the exhaust manifold was a dull red at the Y where the header drops down to the exhaust pipe, (between #5/#6 cylinders). I can feel the heat radiating out from the engine from several feet on the side of the exhaust. Coolant temperature is in the high 180's and not boiling.
1. Is this normal to see a dull red exhaust manifold?
2. Why do I have to advance the distributor all the way to stop to get it to start and run?
Thanks in advance.
