When I was in the Army I worked in fuel and electrical. Those pumps were a big item but we rarely had trouble with them. The fuel density compensator won't change the timing it is just a wedge on a diaphragm that changes the amount of fuel metered. You might have a filter plugged. That felt stack under the front could be removed if you are not running it on waste oil. The pumps can be turned up some but the old whistler turbo really will not provide any boost. It was an environmental addition. If you have no turbo on that one it should roll coal.
