The gasket was in an axle pack that I got from a friend. Also got the entire rear axle from him as well. I was slipping the gasket on over the studs when I found that it had split at one of the studs. I don't even know when it split. There was a little tension on the gasket, but not enough to cause me to worry. I think it was just old and brittle.
Having the vent clog and pull a vacuum? That's a possibility! These were some of the longest and hottest runs I've ever pulled with this machine. I bet the vent had some of the black jelly get into it from earlier.
As for the blown up tire. The tire store guys said that they think it was a bad tube from the start. Everything inside the tire was fine. But I supplied the parts and they did the labor. So maybe they'd say that no matter what?
