Makes it a whole easier to install the 3rd member in the housing, especially if you only have a floor jack. The long pilot studs allow you to guide the unit onto the smaller studs. To each his own I guess. I use 2 pilot studs at the 11 and 1 o’clock positions and it seems to work great.
