The other thing they do, at least for me, is force you to sort out what you are working on and why. I kinda' get the feeling that I'm accountable to my readers and that keeps me on track with what I said I was going to do. And if I don't? At least I'll give an explanation. Otherwise I think I'd just completely loose focus and go off to start other projects.
Isn't starting projects easy? Wow, slippery slope!
