The tool is called a clinometer, a swivel face with a bubble or a needle pointing down.
You may need to supplement with a straight stick across the park brake drum, or to extend a line of the bell housing.
Are your two driveshaft halves clocked properly? Pointer be damned, the two u-jt shafts attached to the shaft parts have to be parallel, NOT perpendicular..
