Way I understand it is that the legalization of marijuana is the first step to hemp production since hemp was categorized with it under the law, otherwise we never would have stopped. Alot of folks also used to produce their own ethanol to fuel the farm around here, especially during WWII when fuel was rationed, maybe that's why there are so few 40's era tractors and vehicles left around here... even sitting in hedge rows...ooorrr that might be because very few farmers were heavily mechanized until the early 50's in these parts.
I was talking to a neighbor, who also happens to be one of the larger local crop and beef producers. He would like to see hemp production back but is concerned that it would be over-produced just like every other commodity, but there are still applications that interest him even if he was producing for use on the farm. Another neighbors goats and sheep eat the young ditch weed as soon as it gets a foot or two tall....either way, it's not a primary food stock, which seems a far better source than corn or beans as far as fuel production.
