One thing to be aware of is the upper and lower tanks are made of brass. Some folks have experienced cracking of the brass where it crimps over the core, as a result of the removal and reinstallation of the tanks. The brass gets brittle with years of vibration and heat cycles. So if any repairs can be done without removing the tanks, that might be the route to go. Just my 2 cents, based on what I've read from others.
Having said the above, I had my radiator core rodded many years ago, which involved removing at least the upper tank. I haven't had any leak problems since that time. As with anything, I'm sure it depends on the care taken by the radiator shop.
