I initially set timing via vacuum guage because I could not see timing marks. since then replaced the crank seal and filed in the timing marks. When I checked it was at 8DBTDC.

I reset timing based on manual at 2DATDC and runs terrible, will reset with vac gauge and check with timing light. Good to hear someone else is running with timing where I was at initially.
