Someone in California did the to a pw, I think he took the wheel base to 100" or so. It was written up in a magazine somewhere. Offhand I'd say a diagonal cut would be weaker. More weld to go wrong somewhere, and I would think a longer weld would be weaker than uncut steel. In other words adding a longer length to an already weak spot seems to be even more weak. Then again, I'm not a structural engineer either. I weld alot, and try to keep the welds as short as possible to lessen the chance of screwing the bead up. And I'd rather make a square cut than an angled cut.
