Snow's a funny material. I went back up the same road today and drove half a mile up without much trouble. Snow was deeper and wetter than the first time, and maybe being wetter helped because the truck actually got up on the snow and didn't try to dig down to dirt. When I turned around it was up to the running boards, and I don't know how deep the snow was in the tire tracks. One problem when it starts to dig down in the rear is that with two rear axles and only one having chains on it, the one with the chains digs a hole and the one without the chains stays up on the snow and holds the chained tires up in the air. I'd like to see how it does with two sets of dually chains; might be a lot better. Yes, I'm sure it would go right through 18" of rocky mountain powder especially on a road that hasn't been driven on. Maybe if I got further up the mountain it would actually get easier, though there's probably a base of frozen crud under it all. Now an M29 weasel would be a fun thing to have...
