That's the same feeling I had and I was just a youth of about 17 dealing with an old 50 Buick. I suffered greatly with that car overheating whenever I took it out on the highway. I tried a lot of things before I focused on the fan belt. Luckily, the old iron blocks could take a lot of heat.
Lesson learned, I always kook at the belts whenever there is an overheating problem. You would think there would be some squealing or something else to indicate the belt was slipping.
Sometimes, the pulley needs to be roughed up with some sand paper. Hopefully, your over heating problems is solved. It's a good feeling.
