Hand brake mis-alines

The handbrake band is on the gearbox for this version. I noticed before that when the handbrake is pulled, the top tends to slide back and the bottom slides forward. Maybe 1/4"? After putting everything bak together its still doing it. Is this normal? If not, what could cause this?
