Marty, I searched through my parts lists. I have each successive list through the years in question (1957-1962). There is no mention whatsoever of an alternator in any of the 1957 through 1960 parts lists. Also, there is only one wiring harness listed during these years. The 1961 parts list is the first one to include alternators. And, these are indicated with the symbols stipulating that they are new numbers having never appeared previously in a parts list. I can find no mention of alternators in any of the 1958 Power-Wagon sales brochures.
If, I mean "IF", they indeed did offer the option of an alternator in 1958, I have seen no proof of it in person as of today. If alternators were an option before 1961, I would say they were most likely being installed in a prototypical fashion and they were probably pulling whatever parts they had available that happened to satisfy the task at the time.
If something does not look right, it probably isn't. You can't go wrong in a restoration by going with the correct generator and pulleys for the year.
