The source of electrical power, being the battery + positive is grounded. The battery - negative goes to the mechanical starter, being the largest electrical load (though only for a short time period) in the whole truck.
The #10 red wire from the mechanical starter post goes to one side of the ammeter. Therefore every thing connected to the other side of the ammeter passes through it (is still - negative) and should accumulate and register on the gauge.
It is beyond me why the two posts on the ammeter are marked + and - . Maybe in and out would be more appropriate. JJB.
