Back in the old days, the polarity of a vehicle was determined by the voltage regualtor. On the mounting base of the regulator, it was stamped with a part number that included N for neg ground, or P for pos ground. Look for that before doing anything.
As cars became more solid state, polarity is determined by a lot of stuff on a car. In example, LED lights wont work in reverse polarity. Nor will radios.
If your truck regulator is stamped N for neg ground, and thats how you have it hooked up, fix the ammeter reading backwards by reversing the two wires on the back of the ammeter to read a charge instead of dishcharge.
