Preface - My drafting teacher said I had a cognitive deficiency for understanding 3-dimensions, and he was probably right.
To me, this chevron looks like it’s installed correctly for aggressive forward traction- where the rubber meets the road it will sluice mud and water back and out, and make a “forward arrow” tread pattern on the ground. Right? Or am I crazy?
But reading up on this, it sounds like this is the non-aggressive “flotation” orientation. Called so because you would not dig into mud, or would propel forward when spinning in water in an amphibious vehicle. Also - directional arrows on the sidewalks of newer snow tires show the opposite of this photo. And a lot of photos from WW2 show “forward arrow” tread orientation on top of the tire as well ...
