I wish they grew like that around here. I'm sure the winters there are a lot less grueling and the growing season a lot longer than North Idaho. :)
Our best firewood is Western Larch that has been fire-killed. The branches and the bark burns off and the trees cure out slowly while standing, waiting for someone like me to come and cut them down.
