I have heard of that trick tho never tried it. one option too would be to just run a water injection system they work great but its just something else to have to fill. they were popular in the late 70s and 80s when high compression 60s cars were still on the road and the octane of gas went way down after 74. the pinging was so bad it was a solution that worked. I remember you could turn the key off on the crappy modern gas and the car would just keep on running for a while. ;/)
