I have both mechanical and electric fuel pumps in my 1949 Power Wagon and my 1967 IHC Scout. I normally run only the mechanical pumps, but switch on the electric pump if vapor lock sets in. They're also nice to prime the carburetor after they aren't started for a while. The mechanical pump is still the primary unit.
