There are modern spin-on bypass filters. I don't have any numbers for them, but I suggest you get one of those instead of the more common spin-on, which is intended for a full flow system. If you put a full flow filter on an engine that is set up for bypass, then you are getting the worst of all worlds. At least with the original factory bypass filter, it would filter very fine particles from the small portion of the oil that is getting filtered, while full flow filters handle all of the oil, but do not catch the really small stuff that bypass filter would catch. So installing a full flow spin-on filter on your bypass engine will result in only part of the oil getting filtered, and the small stuff is getting through and remaining in the oil.
