It's a thin area that slot and most tools will break trying to get rusted nuts, bolts and screws off that are pretty rusted. If you soften the tool up, it may just twist as the next issue. I think there is a level of reasonableness for a tool matched by a reasonable condition for a fastener. I've had to drill some out, no tool could do it, not even a easy out. You've taken enough screws out to prove it works, but when something is rusted beyond what would be a normal condition, such as a very rusted screw, you may be asking more than what the tool is capable of doing. If the condition of the tool is still in good shape, after it's use, you have a well designed tool.
