I sorta did the same thing except I rounded a piece of flat stock slightly on a table sander to mimick the original sheet metal strip. Then bent it to the shape of the roof. Then I welded some 10-32 studs to the back side and drilled thru holes for them to stick into the cab. Then I put seam sealer in the groove and bolted the piece in place.Looks stock, and hasn't cracked in ten years.
