Gasket Sealant on axles?

As a follow-up to my question about axle gasket thickness a few days ago, I wanted to ask you guys if you use sealant on your gaskets, whether they be the differential gaskets, axle shaft flange gaskets or whatever. I'm in the habit of using RTV, and if I ever have to tear apart these assemblies, it takes me a lot of time to clean off the old sealant and prep the surfaces again for new sealant. I hate leaks, so I've been hesitant to go without it.
