I wouldn't sweat it too much. Use it as a general reference, but I would recommend running the timing as advanced as possible, whatever that is. You'll get the most power and economy out of it that way.
The way I do it is to advance the timing a couple degrees at a time, and road test the truck up a moderate hill with the engine up to temperature. Once I hear a bit of pinging on hard acceleration I back off the distributor until it stops, then retard the timing one additional degree. It's trial and error, but it works. Make sure the dwell is set correctly before you adjust the timing.
