M37 Brake/Clutch Shaft Issue

I bought what appeared to be a NOS brake and clutch pedal shaft for my M37. The keys on the original shaft are offset about 75 degrees from each other. The keys on the new shaft are offset about 90 deg, and the clutch pedal now sits 3-4" closer to the seat than the brake pedal - no good. My M37 is an early 1951 model, so I'm wondering if this shaft fits a later M37, or if I just got a bad part.
