Valve seats in a diesel engine question

Looking at options with my 4bt head - there is a crack from the injector hole through to the intake valve. Not sure if seats are an option or not. My Cummins book shows seats as a repair item. I do know that if I drop a seat the engine will pretty much be destroyed but new heads are not cheap. So has anyone had this done to their engine or have you all run for 500 thousand miles without an issue. Just kissed 50000 on the 4bt.
No matter what i am modifying my cooling system, when going slow, like 5 miles an hour in the bush and going up hill, the temps get up to the 220 range.
