I'm with Desoto61 on this... I think the 2.8 is great in a Jeep or something of that Chassis size but they still lack the umph that you'll want with what essentially is a modern 1 ton truck these days. Would it work, and be driveable, certainly... I just think it would feel like driving an MDT with a 4BD1T or something like that in it. Fred Williams put one in a TJ and drove it underwater. I think they will be a great powertrain for the 1/4 ton and 1/2 ton chassis vehicles like the Wranglers, Small Land Rovers, etc. I have a friend with a RH drive late '70s with a small CRD bluetec swap and its a cool truck, drives well, but is lacking the get up and go when it needs it.
