I'm looking for a truck platform to do some man and dog camping in the western US and down Baja in the next few years. I'm thinking a Four Wheel pop-up type camper on a PW.
I have a 46 WDX project, 4.89 gears, Ray Suiter's discs all four corners, modern diesel, trans, power brakes. I don't have a bed so a flat bed with a slide in camper is what I have in mind.
My concern is the ride quality. I don't want a truck with square wheels ride quality. I've been a lurker here for a few years and know a little of what to expects from the truck as far a ride goes. Guess I'm wondering if there's people out there softening up the truck's suspension to make it a tolerable long distance drive, with some off roading in between.
I haven't decided the PW is the right choice. I already have it (in project form :) ) but am considering Ram 2500 Cummins, Diesel Suburban, maybe even a smaller truck like the Tacoma if I can stand to drive a gasser! :)
Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.
